Parents and Grief
The passing of a child can be the most intense pain a parent can experience. Dealing with the grieving process can be confusing when there is a lack of answers. Grieving is not easy, and it is a long and unpredictable process that requires a lot of patience. Below are some resources to help you with your grieving process:

No one should have to navigate infant loss alone. The Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health Program of Mendocino County offers a collection of grief and bereavement books for individuals and families affected by the unexpected loss of an infant.
If your family has experienced the loss of an infant due to SIDS, we encourage you to reach out to our Public Health Nurse. We can help connect you with grief support resources, bereavement materials, and other services available to support you during this difficult time. Our contact information is listed below.
National Resources for Grief
First Candle is a program that is seeks to provide support to those families who have lost a baby. Grief counseling any time day or night for a family member in need. They offer one-on-one support and access to materials and local support services, their website is available here (click here). Call 1-800-221-7437 English and Spanish speakers available.
Children’s Bereavement Center is a program offering free grief support groups (click here).
The Compassionate Friends offers private Facebook groups to connect with others about their loss, for a variety of age ranges, and for the loss of siblings too. Use their website to find the group that is the support you need (click here).
